Job Description

The Head of North American Sales will have primary responsibility for executing against sales strategy. This includes managing a team of Business Development Managers. Regional based incumbent will define/communicate sales KPI’s to executive leadership, analyze patterns in account spending and market behavior, and subsequently define data-driven action strategies in order to consistently maximize the sales performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Build and engage sales team, providing guidance and support for territory managers/account planning, opportunity development, and key client-facing activities
• Define and enforce best practices for successful sales, including funnel and forecasting, sales training approaches, and sales tactics
• Provide sales leadership presence at client & prospective client meetings
• Meet or exceed regional sales goals through the coaching and support of sales managers
• Meet or exceed sales goals through prospecting and winning new revenue – generating relationships
• Utilizing advanced sales, communications, and business skills to position appropriate solutions, overcome objections/resistance and close the sale
• Provide strong leadership and strategic guidance in the development of the Company’s commercial interests.
• Assist in developing an annual budget as well as manage and monitor the company growth plan for global sales with frequent management reporting and forecasting to the executive team and other key stakeholders.
• All other duties as assigned or necessary

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
• 8+ years of Sales Leadership Experience in the scientific research instrumentation industry
• Experience leading 2 or more managers
• Having sold or managing teams selling complex capital equipment is a must
• Strong relationships in Pharma, Biotech and Research organizations are preferred
• Experience with molecular biology, genomics, or biology, and some background in NGS preferred
• Experience working with novel technology that is not yet fully established within a market and developing strategies to gain traction and drive adoption
• Proven track record of sales team success, especially in small, nimble organizations and with teams that require extensive direct coaching and support
• Highly adaptable and collaborative, ability to modulate between strategic and tactical issues easily
• Excellent verbal and writing skills, great computer skills
• Take initiative and have a growth mindset

Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in a Science related field or Business
• Master’s Degree in Business or related field preferred

Working Conditions:
• This position is ideally based in our San Diego, CA office
• Travel is >= 50%
