Position Description
Stephen Shea’s neuroscience research group at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking an experienced laboratory technician to join their team, beginning immediately. Ideally the candidate will be able to overlap with our departing current technician for training and continuity of expertise. The Shea lab studies the neural circuitry of natural olfactory and auditory social communication and maternal behavior in mice. We use novel behavioral, neuroanatomical, machine learning, optogenetic, and chemogenetic methods, and our work features electrical and optical recordings of neural activity in freely interacting mice. We perform these experiments in wild type mice and mouse models of autism spectrum disorders.

Requirements

Position Requirements
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related discipline is required.

Experience: One to three years of experience in laboratory science is required.

Skills: Ideally the candidate will have experience with one or more of the following: in vivo electrophysiology, viral delivery of opto- or chemogenetic tools, small animal surgery, rodent behavior, histology, molecular biology, PCR genotyping, elementary electronics, optics, and/or other wet lab skills. Experience programming in Matlab/Python is a big plus.
