To strengthen our excellent research team which is focused on the development and research of new innovative approaches for the characterization of pediatric leukemias, we are looking for a Technical Assistant (f/m/d). In this responsible role, you will have the unique opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary competence center for pediatric cancer research and to have a direct influence on the development of new cancer therapies and diagnostic approaches.

You will be working in the newly established program for precision oncology at the St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute in close collaboration with and under supervision of the laboratories of Kaan Boztug [https://ccri.at/research-group/kaan-boztug-group/] and Michael Dworzak [https://ccri.at/research-group/michael-dworzak-gr…]. The laboratory of Kaan Boztug has years-long experience in unraveling the molecular mechanisms of inborn errors of immunity and bone marrow failures and developing precision oncology- approaches for these and malignant disorders of hematopoiesis in childhood (e.g., Shahin T et al., Science Immunology 2021; Jana B et al., New Engl J Med 2023). The focus of Michael Dworzak’s research group is the development and validation of novel diagnostic methodologies based on flow-cytometry and the development of novel therapies for children and adolescents with leukemias and lymphomas (e.g., Buldini B et al., Frontiers Pediatrics 2019; Schumich et al., Hemasphere 2019).

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
*) Ex-vivo drug screenings: You will perform and further develop ex-vivo drug screenings of pediatric leukemia samples with immunofluorescence readouts in a high-throughput approach.
*) Cell culture systems: In your responsible hands we will place the establishment and characterization of advanced cell culture systems for primary samples from pediatric leukemia patients, for example by co-culturing with additional cell types.
*) Lab Management: You will support the team by pursuing some organizational tasks, such as the generation and maintenance of SOPs and the laboratory inventory.
*) Teamwork: You will contribute with your work, ideas and collaboration in a highly advanced and inter-disciplinary team.

Requirements

What you bring for this position:

*) University degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, biology, precision medicine or a comparable degree
*) Basic laboratory skills, experience with cell-culture and corresponding assays such as flow-cytometry and immunofluorescence imaging, experience with primary patient material is a plus
*) Precise working style, reliability, high motivation to do medically relevant research
*) Excellent English and German skills
